Hospice Staff Testimonials

"What makes us different in my eyes is the high caliber of professionals working on a team. In some interdisciplinary teams, one discipline can take center stage. But at Silverado Hospice, we have highly skilled, highly motivated team members who want to get out there and do their part with excellence. They never need to be asked. It is reassuring and inspiring that this is the team I am privileged to lead.

Personally, Silverado has been very good to me, offering me a meaningful work environment that allows me to grow and develop, not just as a clinician and end-of-life provider, but as a manager and leader. My ideas count here, and not just in words. I have been given many resources over the years to provide more innovative, well-informed care. Whether that is with support from a supervisor to try a new way of doing things or learning more on a certain subject, hard work plus bright ideas are really valued in this company."

"Before I joined the Silverado family a little over 6 years ago I was in the Skilled Nursing industry. My last two years in SNF I went home almost every night feeling terrible, I felt like I had not been honest with so many families by telling them their loved one would receive the best care as this was not the case AT ALL. Working with Silverado has allowed me to end each day with a "feel good" state of mind, I know we are doing the best and LIFE is a fact!"
- Carilyn Long, Regional Director of Sales & Marketing

"I've been with Silverado about 5 ½ years. During this time, I've encountered the best and worst times of my life. Best Day - The Day I got married 3 years ago; Worst Day - the Day my 17-year-old son, Austin, was killed in a wreck on his way to school, 2 ½ years ago. Silverado was there for me every step of the way. They celebrated and embraced my marriage to Chris, and mourned with me and emotionally held me up during my loss of Austin. They "get" it! Silverado understands that we all aren't just sales people, care givers, culinary staff, or just nurses. We're family first. They "get" that associates need to be part of a family - a family that truly cares about each other. And when this Silverado Family is encouraged, coached, acknowledged, listened to, respected, and motivated, our residents/patients/clients are easily cared for. We feel good about ourselves and good about the work we do. We know that we are making a difference every single day in people's lives."
- Nancy Harkey Convertito, Regional Director of Sales & Marketing

"We all have such unique life stories. At Silverado it's our job and goal to get to the heart of what is truly important. One size doesn't fit all and there is really beauty in that. At Silverado last wishes occur on a daily basis and it's all in a day's work to be there to help someone enjoy every moment of life up to its last moments"
- Anonymous, Hospice Administrator, Salt Lake City

"It's the only job that I've ever had that when I get up every morning I know that I have the chance to make a difference in someone's life today. Where can you go to work and know that what you do that day will affect the rest of someone's life?"
 - Kathy Mahan King, Regional Director Sales and Marketing

"Silverado goes beyond being a business and helps in the building of good people. Silverado has lofty goals and philosophies: Love is greater than Fear, work is your home away from home, give LIFE, and being a world class employer. I have worked in many organizations where leaders were to be feared. Silverado's leadership strives to manage under the Love is greater than Fear philosophy creating a safe place to work. I am lucky to work at Silverado where I am asked to practice a philosophy that I want to live in my own personal life. Most of my waking hours are at work; so, I feel great satisfaction in being employed by an organization that desires me to feel at home. Silverado gives LIFE. The emphasis on plants, animals and my personal family's participation in the organization re-energizes me and perpetuates the feeling that Silverado gives LIFE which in turn allows me to give LIFE more fully to those I serve. Silverado has been a world class organization for me by allowing me to meet the leadership of Silverado many times. These visits are rich with the history of Silverado and the vision that we will be the leader in chronic diseases in the near future. Silverado is helping me to become a better person by focusing my attention on things that matter most to me: love, life, home, and being part of a world class organization."
- Owen Christenson, Office Manager, Silverado Hospice of Utah

"Hospice care can be very emotionally and mentally difficult sometimes, but with this great environment, I can truthfully say I have been excited to come to work each morning to be part of this company changing the world."
- Anonymous K. Hunt, LCSW, Administrator-Silverado Hospice of Utah

"Love is greater than Fear." As important as Silverado's motto is to the care of residents in our communities, I believe it is more important still in hospice care. Here we face the ultimate fear - death - on a daily basis. Often hospice patients have only months, weeks, sometimes only days left to live. Affirming life even in the face of death is the unique calling and privilege of all hospice workers and chaplains in particular. What I love about Silverado is that we do not just pay lip service to these ideas. We value the spiritual care and wellbeing of our patients as they make the transition from this life to the next every bit as much as we value their physical and emotional care. We are not afraid to recognize people's spiritual needs when we see them and we are vulnerable enough to accompany them into the valley of death, even if this means heartache for us in the process. Through compassionate presence, non-judgmental listening, and prayerful response, Silverado Hospice chaplains seek to bring healing to our patients and their loved ones even when curing their disease is no longer an option.
