Silverado Hospice patients and families experience Love, Innovation, Family and Engagement through our special hospice programs.
Petals for Patients
Volunteers create beautiful and unique flower arrangements and deliver them on a regular basis to patients who live all over Orange County. All fresh flowers and containers are donated. On holidays and special occasions, arrangements are tied with colorful ribbons to commemorate that day.
Memory Pillows
Memory Pillows are special keepsakes made from a piece of a patient's clothing, such as a shirt or nightgown. A talented volunteer transforms the article of clothing into a pillow which is a one-of-a-kind, lasting treasure.
Go Wish: A program whereby the hospice patient chooses specific things that they would like achieve during their End-of-Life journey. The Hospice team assists and facilitates the patient and family in realizing a dream large or small. This could be reconnecting with a loved one and visiting a special place once more.
Birthday Buddies
When a patient has no one to celebrate a birthday with, a volunteer or social worker arrives with a balloon, a card and a cake and helps to make it a special and memorable day.
Pet Therapy
Volunteers and their specially trained dogs visit patients to provide pet therapy. These loving pets offer a special kind of socialization to those who request it.
Music Therapy
Volunteers play an instrument and sing with those patients who want to participate in this fun and interactive musical engagement.
Books on Tape and CD
We have a lending library of books on tape and CD for patients who are visually impaired. This is a great way for those who can't read any longer due to a medical condition to participate in the enjoyment of books.
Silver PAWS - Pets Are Worth Sharing: A unique program of Pet Therapy whereby trained volunteers and pets visit patients in their home. Pets have been proven to provide comfort and joy through interaction due to their ability to give and receive love unconditionally. Animals can break through communication barriers in a way that words cannot match, and have long been used to reach residents in Silverado's Senior Living communities.
Aroma Therapy: Response to smell can engage conversation about what memories are evoked, how that particular aroma makes a patient feel, or even what images a new smell conjures! Different scents are used to help relax, rejuvenate, or simply engage a patient.
Massage Therapy: Everyone needs to be touched. Orange County area offers specific hand massage therapy only. In advanced age the skin is very delicate and we only use well trained therapists.
Silver Hearts: This program is in partnership with Silverado At Home. Caregivers are provided intensive End-of-Life training so they are prepared to provide one on one care for extended periods of time.

“Please pass this heartfelt thank you along to those who participated in the care of my brother-in-law. It is very important to me that they know how much we appreciate them and that we never would have experienced the healing that occurred in this family without their help. We thank you, Silverado, from the bottom of our hearts!”
