Charles Steven Fehlauer, MD
Medical Director
Charles brings a passion for research and innovation in the field of medicine and in particular, in Alzheimer’s care. He received his MD from the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. Since 1991, he has been a research investigator at the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center and staff physician with the Geriatric Internal Medicine Section at the Salt Lake City Veterans Administration. As a physician committed to achieving and maintaining maximum quality of life for our seniors, he also serves as Physician Consultant for PEAK Academy, Department of Exercise and Sport Medicine, University of Utah. Dr. Fehlauer is certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine and is an American Board of Internal Medicine Diplomate in Geriatric Medicine. He serves on the University of Utah Cognitive Sciences Executive Committee and the Advisory Board of the Northern Utah Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Dr. Fehlauer shares Silverado’s passion for maximizing the quality of life of the frail elderly through exercise and sensory stimulation and has participated in a long-term study with dementia patients studying the effects of exercise and sensory-perceptual stimulation on their cognition.
Gia Osmus, RN
Director of Health Services
Excellence in quality of care is the main focus of the Director of Health Services at Silverado Aspen Park. Gia Osmus, RN, joined our team in January 2003 and brings with her 14 years experience in the fields of Long-Term Care, Assisted Living, Home Health and Case Management. The last five years have been in nursing management with a new emphasis on Dementia care. The nursing team at Aspen Park, consisting of Licensed Nurses and Caregivers, are an exceptionally strong team and meet the physical and emotional needs of those entrusted to their care. Gia is proud to be a member of that team.
Gia’s strongest asset is her family and the support they render to her. She has three children and one stepdaughter who all love to come to Silverado and join in the activities, visiting with “Grandma” or “Grandpa,” and attending to the many pets that call Silverado their home.
Tammi Nielson
Culinary Director
My love of food and cooking started at the very young age of 7, with my first Easy Bake Oven. I was the primary cook in my family since I was 8. I believe a good meal can fix almost anything!
I always look for new recipes and ways to improve food. I have always had a great love to serve and help others, which started when I was a Red Cross volunteer in Junior High and helped at hospitals. I would spend my summer at the Cerebral Palsy camps. I started working in the health care field in 1981 where I have been a caregiver, laundry aide, and social service aide.
In 1988 I went to work for a dietary department in a skilled nursing community. I started as a dishwasher, then dietary aide up to cook, then assistant to dietary manager. I received my T.R.T. license and worked in recreation for 8 years. I have been back in the culinary service for 11 years. I have been at Silverado for 5 years.
I have a profound love and respect for the elderly, for they are the building blocks of all that we have and enjoy. I feel it a privilege to serve them, to make great warm, and appealing nutritious food for them for food can comfort the soul.
I have been married 3 ½ years to a great man named Ken. We have 2 Shih Tzu dogs, named Jasmine and Jade, who love to come to work with me and get lots of love from the residents.
