Mary Conlen

Family Ambassador
Mary has lived down the street from the Escondido Silverado community since its doors opened in 1997. Her two children were 7 and 9 then, and would visit the residents here and play the violin for them (not very well at first!). She has always had a soft spot in her heart for this community, and jumped at the chance to join Silverado this year after serving another community for four years as their Senior Living Counselor.

Mary is passionate about what she does, and looks forward every day to assisting families in making thoughtful and educated decisions for their loved ones. By listening carefully to each individual story, she can help each new resident maximize his or her independence and freedom. She loves that her community is full of life - including family members, children, and lot of animals!

Mary has been married to her artist husband for 25 years. In her leisure time, she enjoys hiking, gardening, and spending time with her family, including her grown son and daughter, and new grand-baby Rose Willow.

Mary welcomes you to contact her with any questions or concerns, or to schedule a visit. She invites you to ask her about two of Silverado’s maxims:

Love is Greater than Fear
&
We Give L.I.F.E to Those We Serve

Judith Kay

Director of Resident and Family Services
Judith Kay, LCSW, joined Silverado Senior Living Escondido as the Director of Resident and Family Services in August of 2011. Having earned a BA in History and a Teaching Credential from UC Santa Barbara, Judith 's first career was in education. Later, with her daughter in college, Judith decided to return to school herself to pursue a career in geriatrics, a field she had been drawn to all of her life.  That's when she moved to San Diego and earned a Masters of Social Work from San Diego State University.

With over 20 years experience in the field of aging, Judith brings with her a deep understanding of the challenges facing older adults and their families. Her experience ranges from hospital social work and skilled nursing care, to adult day health care, Alzheimer’s research and Geriatric Care Management.

Judith enjoys sharing what she has learned through presentations and trainings for professionals and families.  She has a deep appreciation for the value of family support groups and was honored with the Above and Beyond Award from the Alzheimer's Association for her volunteer work in that area.

A firm believer in the power of love over fear, Judith says she was drawn to Silverado because she wanted to work in an environment where decisions are based on values and where laughing, hugging, dancing and singing are not only allowed but encouraged.
